Disney Pulls Netflix – iParis.com
Though Disney had been rumored to be considering starting its own streaming service for some time, it moved quickly on that plan in recent days after an earnings report showed a drop in revenue compared to this time in 2016. While last year saw Disney boast $7 billion in box office receipts, the 2017 theatrical slate has been considerably less lucrative, and the company has been plagued by a rash of cord-cutters from its cable channel offerings, where it earns the majority of its revenue.
Disney, on the other hand, has much of the best content being produced in the Hollywood system so they were either going to buy Netflix or build their own.
So what’s the future? We’re going to have to pay/subscribe to each of these point services (CBS All Access, DisneyStream, Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc).
In that world, the aggregation will happen at the Device/OS level. This is good news for Android TV and Apple TV.
Google Diversity – iParis.com
It was reported that two Google executives criticized a memo that circulated late last week at the company from an unnamed engineer suggesting that there were “biological causes” for under representation of women in technology and leadership.
The original memo, titled “Google’s Ideological Echo Chamber,” relied on social science data to make the point that a dearth of women in tech wasn’t reflective of large-scale discrimination, but of difference in career preference and capacity between men and women on average. Such wrongthink would not be tolerated at Google, the company quickly responded.

Netflix Millarworld – iParis.com
Netflix acquired Mark Millar’s Millarworld who is one of the prolific comics maker behind some of Marvel’s biggest cinematic success.
Together, Netflix and Millar will bring Millarworld’s portfolio of critically and fan-acclaimed character franchises to life through films, series and kids’ shows available exclusively to Netflix members globally. Millarworld will also continue to create and publish new stories and character franchises under the Netflix label.
Millar, whose time at Marvel led to the storylines that inspired the films “Captain America: Civil War” and “Logan,” adds: “This is only the third time in history a major comic book company has been purchased at this level. I’m so in love with what Netflix is doing and excited by their plans. Netflix is the future and Millarworld couldn’t have a better home.”
